Fear Spreads

Made for the January 2024 Pirate Software Game Jam!

The theme was "It's Spreading"

Within the context of 'Fear Spreads', It's as it says on the tin. Fear and anger have a habit of feeding on themselves making it seem like that's all there is. Those kind of negative feelings have a habit of spreading to other people (just look at social media) and it reinforces itself and can make an echo-chamber effect. The Player is striving not to let the negative emotions get to them but they just keep coming, even when the player thinks they're doing good (when they level up) it doesn't seem to outwardly do anything. It feels hopeless, that no matter what level you are dealing with the enemies never gets any easier, sure you can get better at dodging them and maintaing your distance but no matter how many you deal with, more show up. Then the player reaches the end, if the player reaches max level they get the 'You Win!' screen. It shows the back of the happy square walking off into the sunset, them realising it's not their responsibility to fix other people.
